Luxury Vinyl Tile Installation in Richmond, TX

Luxury vinyl tile gives you the look of stone or ceramic without the cold, hard surface or the cracked grout. We explain each option in everyday words, check what's under your floor, and install it carefully so it stays flat and tight for years.

What Luxury Vinyl Tile Is and When It Makes Sense

Luxury vinyl tile, usually called LVT, is vinyl flooring cut in square or rectangular tile shapes instead of long planks. A printed stone or ceramic image sits under a clear wear layer, so it looks like tile but feels softer and a little warmer when you're standing at the stove. Some styles are made to be grouted, which makes the look surprisingly close to the real thing.

It comes in two main types. Rigid core LVT clicks together and floats over the subfloor. Glue-down LVT is thinner and bonds directly to the slab, which works well in big open rooms and under heavy furniture. We'll tell you which one suits your rooms and why.

We've been in business 25+ years, and LVT is often the right call for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and entries. If you'd rather have a long wood look, our Luxury Vinyl Plank page covers that option.

What Your LVT Installation Includes

  1. 01

A straight explanation of the product

We show you what the numbers on the box mean. Wear layer thickness is measured in mils, and a 20 mil layer stands up to pets and kids far better than a 12 mil one. We also explain that "waterproof" describes the tile itself, not the subfloor underneath it.

  2. 02

    Removing the old floor

We take up carpet, sheet vinyl, laminate or ceramic tile and haul it away. Old ceramic takes the most work, and we'll tell you up front if that's what's coming up.

  3. 03

    Slab testing and leveling

Most homes around here sit on concrete slabs, and our humid air can push moisture up through them. We test for moisture and check flatness, then fill low spots and grind high ones so the tiles don't flex or click apart at the seams.

  4. 04

    Layout planning

Tile shapes show every crooked line. We work out the starting point before anything is glued or clicked, so the rows look balanced and you don't get skinny cut pieces where you walk into the room. If you pick a grout-able style, we settle the joint spacing at the same time.

  5. 05

    Trim, transitions and finishing

We undercut door jambs so the tile slides underneath, then add quarter round or baseboard and clean transitions to carpet or wood. Every installation is covered by our 1-year workmanship warranty.

Signs It's Time to Look at Luxury Vinyl Tile

  • Cracked tiles or crumbling grout

Hairline cracks and grout that keeps breaking loose usually mean the old tile is near the end of its life. LVT replaces it without a new grout line to scrub or seal.

  • Floors that are hard on your feet

If long stretches in the kitchen leave your knees or back sore, LVT has a little more give than ceramic and doesn't feel as cold in the morning.

  • Peeling sheet vinyl

Lifting seams and curled edges near the tub or dishwasher let water get underneath. That's a good moment to move to a sturdier tile-look floor.

  • Carpet in spill-prone rooms

Carpet in a dining room or kids' bathroom soaks up every accident. LVT wipes clean and holds up to a dropped cup.

  • You want stone looks without the weight

Porcelain and a mortar bed add weight and height, which can be a problem upstairs or next to existing floors. LVT gives you the look at a fraction of the thickness.

How Your LVT Project Goes, Start to Finish

  1. 1

    A conversation by phone

You tell us about the rooms, what's down now and what's bothering you. We explain the difference between rigid core and glue-down so you know what to look at.

  2. 2

    Measuring and checking the slab

We measure each room, test the slab for moisture and look for dips or cracks. You get a written quote that lists removal, prep, materials and trim separately.

  3. 3

    Prep day

We move furniture and appliances, protect nearby rooms and remove the old floor. Leveling compound goes down where it's needed and gets time to set.

  4. 4

    Installation

We lay tile from the planned starting line, leaving the expansion gaps rigid core needs or rolling glue-down tile into the adhesive. We're insured, so you aren't carrying the risk while we work in your home.

  5. 5

    Walkthrough and cleanup

We put trim back, vacuum and wipe the floor, and walk the rooms with you. We'll also go over simple care, like which cleaners to skip.

What Moves the Price of Luxury Vinyl Tile

Every LVT job is priced from your rooms and the product you choose, not a flat number off a sheet. These are the things that make the biggest difference. We walk you through each one so nothing on the quote is a surprise.

Square footage and pattern
More floor means more material and labor. Diagonal or herringbone layouts create more cuts and waste than a straight grid.
The product itself
Thicker wear layers, rigid cores and grout-able styles cost more than thin glue-down tile.
What's coming up
Pulling carpet is quick. Removing ceramic tile set in mortar takes much longer and leaves more prep behind.
Slab condition
A flat, dry slab needs little work. Moisture issues or uneven spots mean extra leveling or a vapor barrier.
Trim and extras
New baseboards, transitions, moving appliances and adding steps from our Stair Flooring service all add to the total.

Luxury Vinyl Tile Questions We Hear Often

Is luxury vinyl tile really waterproof?

The tile itself won't swell or soften from water. But standing water can still get through seams and edges to the slab or subfloor. For bathrooms and laundry rooms, we seal the perimeter and plan transitions carefully so spills stay on top.

What's the difference between LVT and luxury vinyl plank?

They're the same material in different shapes. LVT is cut as squares or rectangles to look like stone or ceramic, while plank is long and narrow to look like wood. The choice is mostly about the look you want in each room.

Can you put LVT right over my old ceramic tile?

Sometimes. If the tile is solid and flat, a rigid core LVT can float over it once deep grout lines are filled. Loose or cracked tile has to come up first, or the problems will show through your new floor.

How soon can we walk on it and move furniture back?

Rigid core LVT can be walked on as soon as we finish. Glue-down LVT needs the adhesive to cure, often about a day, before heavy furniture goes back. We'll tell you the timing for your product.

Does LVT hold up to dogs and kids?

Yes, if you choose a thick enough wear layer. We usually suggest 20 mil for busy homes with pets. Felt pads under chairs help too.

What warranty comes with the installation?

We include a 1-year workmanship warranty on all installations. The tile also carries its own manufacturer's product warranty, which we'll point out when you choose a style.
